From the rose to the truth
“From the rose to the truth” is a series of paintings which I am still developing; it covers a number of oils on canvas, in medium and large size formats which are conceived with a gestural and organic intention, caring for the materials, textures and brush strokes and the use of drippings. I’m interested in paintings which are experimental and meaningful. These child portraits evoke sometimes a state of introspection and ingenuousness. One of my interests is to represent that moment of balance and synchronization in the universe through the child faces, with sorrow, hardness, all childhood and manhood together in a quiet conspiracy.
Real series
In this series of paintings it would be possible to question several issues in one when an artist talks about the sense of art and its human backgrounds, in terms of value. If Dayron Simón has chosen the large scale format for the reproduction of banknotes with human portraits, specifically of children, this is due to a judgment that places in both plates of the balance the precariousness of the faces in formation; and in the other the role of monetary exchange with which we quantify money. An obvious manipulation on a currency in circulation, which has no numismatic value, the artist has supplanted the iconic image of the heroes by children portraits that have none or little history.
